| What About LaFern... LaFern has appeared in Robey Theatre Company’s Dessalines and Permanent Collection with Greenway Arts Alliance (which was revived at the Kirk Douglas Theatre January ’06), Retro TV’s Spoof is All Around. Emmy Winning Director, Chuck Smith cast her in The Temple at ETA, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, Blues For An Alabama Sky at the Goodman Theatre and also at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. She feels very fortunate to have worked with such a great director. Other credits include Flyin’ West, Portraits of Courage, Stories on the Wind and Gift Bringers at Karamu House in Cleveland, where she also taught drama; and Frontiers, Twelve Ways Home, Kabuki Sleeping Beauty, and A Peace from Our Hearts at Phoenix Theatre Circle. At Ebony Theatre in Kansas, she appeared in Shakin’ the Mess Outta Misery, Home, Dreamgirls and For Colored Girls... LaFern also appeared in ABC’s Boston Legal, The Oprah Winfrey Show, FOX's The Bernie Mac Show, Lifetime’s “What Should You Do?” and Universal Pictures’ pilot The 900 Lives of Jackie Frye. Watkins is also Director of Community Affairs for the Southern California Broadcasters Association, Host for ESPN 710AM SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EXPERIENCE and Radio Disney AM1110 COMMUNITY PLAYGROUND and the Immediate Past President for American Women In Radio and Television SoCal Chapter. In a short time she has made a name for herself within AWRT. LaFern has been Corresponding Secretary, Newsletter Editor, Job Bank Coordinator and has helped to organize numerous events for AWRT throughout the year. Her efforts were recognized when she was awarded the Bell Award for National Rising Star. She also serves on the Board for Print Interactive Radio and Television Educational Society (P.I.R.A.T.E.S). |
